Maria Barrera is a Communications Manager from Austin, TX. Prior to joining the Hub, Maria was a Staff Writer for The Daily Toreador (Texas Tech student newspaper). Maria graduated from Texas Tech University in May 2022 with a Bachelor’s in Political Science and a minor in Spanish.
Confronted with the realities of immigration and the power of politics from a very young age, Maria was drawn to work in the progressive space as a daughter and sister of Mexican immigrants. Her experiences with seeing how DACA changed her family’s lives as well as growing up in Texas where women and minorities are especially marginalized by politicians have both sparked her interest in politics. Maria hopes to help make our country realize its full potential in any way she can.
