Position Summary

We’re looking for a Federal and External Affairs Associate to assist with The Hub Project’s outreach to Capitol Hill and our partners. This is a new role that will be a part of the Hub’s Federal and External Affairs team, which helps our national legislative priorities and develop strategies on how to best push a progressive policy agenda and work with partners. We need someone who is detail-oriented with an understanding of how Congress works, a knack for outreach and working with partners, and a passion for creative problem-solving.

Working closely with the Hub’s Director of Federal and External Affairs, you’ll be responsible for tracking, researching, and developing key strategic relationships with members of Congress and partners. Further, you will work with teams across the Hub to align our strategy with that of our partner organizations. You’ll also work with our various issue campaigns teams to make sure our allies are up-to-date on internal efforts and initiatives and informed about our programs.

As Federal and External Affairs Associate, you’ll…

  • Conduct in-depth research on the political landscape to advance The Hub’s positions amongst Congressional offices.
  • Assist in the development of our Congressional engagement database
  • Track legislation, press releases, new developments, and other public materials from members of Congress and partners.
  • Maintain our partnership database and help the Partnerships Manager identify and develop new partnerships.
  • Effectively organize and communicate information to partners and Congressional offices
  • Support the day-to-day management of the office to ensure a high-quality workplace
  • Collaborate with Hub Project staff on other teams (i.e. digital, communications, research, and operations) to be responsive to requests from allies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About you…

  • You have experience on Capitol Hill as staff assistant or scheduler; or a campaign organizer; or have similar experience elsewhere
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Sheets
  • You’re excellent at developing and managing relationships
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills     
  • You’re a pro at multi-tasking and working under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • You’re well-organized and live for the details.
  • You’re a creative problem-solver and enjoy the minutiae of Congressional procedure.
