About the position:

We’re hiring a press secretary for the Nuns on the Bus national tour (a project of NETWORK Lobby). This is a temporary position that’ll run from 10/1/18 through 11/6/18. The Nuns on the Bus 2018 tour will start in California and end at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL. The Press Secretary will travel on the bus for the duration of the tour and will be responsible for driving the day-to-day communications operation for the tour, coordinating with the Nuns on the Bus digital and communications teams (who are based in DC). This person will focus on coordinating local press outreach to help amplify the message of the tour, holding Congress and the White House accountable for their new tax law.

As a Press Secretary you’ll:

  • Assist the Communications Lead and Press Lead with executing the tour’s overall communications strategy and coordinating press relations
  • Coordinate local press outreach, directly pitching reporters and wrangling press at events
  • Work with the Trip Director, Communications Lead, and/or Press Lead to facilitate interviews with Sister Simone, other sisters, surrogates, and partners
  • Help manage the distribution of communications materials for the tour, including press advisories, press releases, editorial board memos, op-eds, and other press materials
  • Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate press logistics at events
  • Work with Communications Lead and other colleagues to prepare sisters for the tour and events, including providing media trainings as sisters join the bus
  • Perform other duties as assigned

About you:

  • You have two to three years of communications experience
  • You are an excellent writer and can communicate effectively with diverse audiences
  • You are extremely well organized, detail-oriented, and analytical
  • You have an excellent understanding of earned media
  • You are eager to adapt to the latest technology and employ creative communications
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to solve problems effectively
  • You have strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work well on a team
  • You have a sense of humor and a willingness to work hard
  • You are committed to a just, inclusive, and robust economy that delivers opportunity and dignity to all

In addition, it would be a bonus if:

  • You have prior experience working on a campaign or an advocacy organization
  • You have experience interacting with reporters and directly pitching press
  • You are familiar with how to communicate about economic policy and/or health care
  • You are familiar with Catholic social justice and/or working with the faith community
